Canticle of Creation, or Canticle of the Creatures, by St. Francis of Assisi 1224

O Most High, all-powerful, good Lord God,
to you belong praise, glory, honor and all blessing.

Praised be You, my Lord, with all Your creatures,
especially Brother Sun,
who brings us the day and the light;
he is strong and shines magnificently.

Praised be You, my Lord, for Sister Moon and the stars,
in heaven You formed them clear and precious and beautiful.

Praised be You, my Lord, for Brother Wind,
and for Air and Cloudy and Serene weather,
through which You give sustenance to Your creatures.

Praised be You, my Lord, for Sister Water,
who is very useful, humble, precious, and pure.

Praised be You, my Lord, for Brother Fire,
through whom You light the night;
he is beautiful, playful, robust, and strong.

Praised be You, my Lord, for Sister Mother Earth,
who sustains and governs us
and produces various fruits,
colored flowers, and herbs.

Praised be You, my Lord,
for those who forgive for love of You
and bear infirmity and tribulation.
Blessed are those who endure in peace,
for by You, Most High, they shall be crowned.

Praised be You, my Lord, for Sister Death,
from whom no living person can escape.
Blessed are those whom death finds in Your holy will,
for the second death shall do them no harm.

Praise and bless my Lord,
and give Him thanks
and serve Him with great humility.
